RU58841 is often found in conjunction with Minoxidil, both used to treat androgenic alopecia. However, their mode of action in the treatment of androgenic alopecia is completely different.
RU58841 is a non-steroidal anti-androgen, which prevents androgen alopecia caused by the accumulation of androgens in hair follicles by blocking the action of androgens (testosterone, DHT).
Minoxidil does not interact with androgens, and its mechanism of action in the treatment of hair loss still not fully understand. It helps to improve blood circulation to the scalp by dilating blood vessels and delivering oxygen and nutrients to the hair follicles. By opening potassium ions all through, promote the proliferation and growth of hair follicles. It also shortens the hair’s resting period and prolongs the growth phase. It performs better by converting sulfotransferase to the more active minoxidil sulfate.
Since RU58841 vs minoxidil have completely different modes of action, why do they often appear together? This is because they are all topical, and the results are basically the same.
Minoxidil was originally to treat high blood pressure and is taken orally, but it is topical when treat hair loss. This is because oral Minoxidil can cause hair growth all over the body.
RU58841 is because its mode of action is anti-androgen, which determines that it can only use as a topical drug. If taken as an oral drug, it will affect the role of androgens throughout the body, including testosterone and DHT(dihydrotestosterone), testosterone as a male sex hormone, if it does not work, we can image its effects, DHT is also an important hormone for men.
Minoxidil is the only topical drug approve by the FDA for the treatment of androgenic alopecia that effectively promotes hair growth, prevents hair loss, and partially reverses the progression of baldness.
In those with Minoxidil and Finasteride that didn’t work, use of RU58841 stopped the growth of bald areas and regrew hair in areas where it had fallen off completely.
As a result, both RU58841 and Minoxidil are effective against androgenic alopecia, and both help bald people grow new hair.
So when two drugs that are the same, but have completely different modes of action, but with the same results, come together, a completely new use emerges. If the mode of action of two drugs is basically the same, then they do not need to combine use, only have to increase the dose of one drug alone. If two drugs are differently, one orally and one topical, the two different ways of using them will be more troublesome. RU58841 and Minoxidil are now use in the same way, with different modes of action, and simply need to apply to the scalp to stop hair loss in multiple directions before promoting hair follicle health and regeneration.
